How I Got Started!
When you were younger, did you ever dream of being rich, traveling the world, or owning your own business? Well, that was me. I wasn’t a woman who wanted to settle down and have babies. I wanted to live like those people on TV that I saw traveling the world and staying in lovely hotels. I was 10 years old when I had my first taste of money, I sold chocolate bars. I didn’t have the best upbringing. I grew up in the projects of the west end Ottawa, also known as Ramsey. The area where I lived was filled with poverty, drugs and abuse. It wasn’t safe for me and after something happened, I decided leave home at 16. I had to go on welfare to be able to pay rent and have some food on the table, but I also had to make money to support myself to buy school supplies, shoes and clothing. So I got part-time job while finishing high school. It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to get out of the projects and not lived on welfare.
I graduated from high school and decided to work instead of going to college. I didn’t think I was smart enough to go to college, but working as a receptionist was not enough, so fast forward to my twenties, I signed up with a private school in hotel and restaurant management. I had a dream to work on a cruise ship as an events coordinator and to eventually own my own hotel down south. After all, they looked like so much fun. Well, owning the hotel down south didn’t happen, but I did get to travel a lot, and I started an events planning business where I had lots of fun. I met lots of people and learned a lot about running a business. After a while, I needed a change, so I sold my events business and went on to buy a cottage with the intention of having it rented out when I wasn’t using it. I enjoyed it, but there were a lot of things I didn’t know about renting out your property such as rental insurance and what happens if you don’t have any, or how to get the renters to pay for damages they caused. I wrote a book about my experience because I didn’t want others to experience my pain. The book is called “Turn Your Cottage Into Money“. It contains lots of helpful tricks, how to write contracts and where to find clients. After a few years, I sold the cottage for DOUBLE what I paid. I took some time to myself and just enjoy life. I was still working full-time because the cottage rental business was not as successful as some people think. It was only rented in the summer. So, by this time, I’m working full-time for the government and well, that’s another story for another day, but if you’re anything like me, an entrepreneur, you like to come up with ways to improve things. So, a few years later, I got the itch again to run another business, and started a software training company teaching home based businesses how to use software to help support their business such as WordPress, MS Word, Excel and others.
Fast forward to 2014, I am currently running my training business that teaches new businesses how to reach their dreams of running a business through my systematic approach. I have workshops that are offered through the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and through Meetup.com events.
I have been where you are and I want you to know that the information and training I am going to show you will help you grow your business quickly.
