Changing Direction

I have been writing 2 books. One is about running a part-time business.  I am writing it for myself but also for part-time business owners. It’s about finding out if I really want to run a business, what are the struggles I am having to make money with my business, all the while trying to find the time to have a life with my man and the other important people in my life.

I also have 2 blogs, and I’m having trouble keeping up with both of them. One of them is called La Femme Ottawa. It’s about ways to save money, make money and have fun in your life. The other is called Tina Lalonde. It talks about ways to make money in your part-time business.

I heard a great podcast from Kim Anderson on her podcast Just Keep Blogging. The podcast was called “Don’t go changing your blog”. It’s interesting that I found that podcast because, I am contemplating changing my blog and what I am writing about on it.

WAIT! Don’t cancel your cards before you read this

PC Master CardI have been receiving emails from my credit card company that I find irritating. Not saying that this is the one, but I wanted you to see a card.

YES, I know I have to pay you, but some of them don’t tell me how much I owe. So, I have to log into see the balance…grrr.

I have 3 cards and well, I only need 2, one for business and one for personal. So, my PC MasterCard has to go. So, I called the company asking them what I had to do, but before she would close it, she said…”Did you know you had $190 accumulated in grocery money?”….Ahhhh, NO!???

It’s weird, I get emails regularly from them telling me my bill is do, but nothing about the points I accumulated and what I can use them for. She said that if I cancelled my card today that i would not be able to use the grocery points. So, what do you think I did? I said “I will gladly use them first and THEN, I will call you back and cancel the card”. Thank you.

So, before you cancel any of your credit cards or throw out your gift cards, check to see if you have any outstanding money or points owed to you, then…spend it, and then, close it.

Stay tuned next week to see what I bought with all that grocery money. One of the things will for sure be…desert, or maybe a bottle of wine, orrr lobster, even though its not in season:) Hey, it’s free money, so I get to splurge.

Update to my bucket list

#32 – Perform in a play that helps women take charge of their future and laugh watching it

About 10 years ago, I saw the play at the Bronson Theater in Ottawa with a friend named Heather whom I no longer hang out with, but not in a bad way, but rather we were different and didn’t have the same interests, or so I think. She is smart and likes to try new things. She suggested we go see this play called The Vagina Monologue and thought, OK? What is it about? The title was a bit provacative. I don’t want to give it away, but lets just say, it was great. I felt the emotions of the women when they were reading their lines. I was in awe of them, standing up there, representing things that need to be said. I wanted to do that, but I was afraid…to stand up and take part in a play. Not because of the stories but…because I wasn’t good at memorizing lines. so, I never tried…until this week.

The Vigina Monologue is coming back to Ottawa in February 2018. I read it online and…they were accepting auditions. Soooo, I tried and I got accepted!!! I will be taking part in the VDay movement.

Look, if you have a dream or something you want to do but are afraid…try. You have nothing to lose. Seriously. What could be the worst thing that could happen if you tried something. I want to know. In fact, I want you to write it in the comments and, I will try to help you reach it.

I did my first public speech

Talk about Nerve racking. I had practiced for 2 months almost everyday. I was at the gym on the treadmill and I would be reading my speech. I would be walking outside and…reading my speech. Last weekend, my man and I went to Syracuse for the weekend and I read my speech while he was driving. I should have it memorized by now, right?

The night of the event I get there early as suggested by the organizer Linda Babulic, who is in this pic with me on the left.

I didn’t know who was going to be speaking first as she was only going to tell us that night. Well, I was the first. I was thinking, man, I wish i was second or something, but then another speaker said to look at it that you don’t have to worry about being better, you are the first..or something like that. And I thought, ya, she’s right. So, I accepted to be first and boy was I glad because…it was nerve racking. To think if I had to wait for others to get up there and see how much better they are then me? All I can say is I am glad I was first.

I start to speak and guess what? After practicing almost DAILY…I forgot parts. Come on!!! I practiced for 2 months!!! Well, I tried to remember as much as I could and, I think I did OK. I am just waiting to see what the video looks like, but they haven’t posted it yet.

I said in my speech that to get what you want in life you have to push through your fear. Well, here’s me pushing. I did my first speech, now I have to PUSH through my frigging procrastination to get my memoir book done. Why is it taking me so long???

Here’s to those who are trying to push through their fear of public speaking. I have one word of advice…do it for you..not for them! If you do it for you, at least you will be proud of you. There will be people who will not say positive things and that’s OK. Its just who they are. Just be YOU!
